As per reports, a planned transport strike by urban transport unions in Lima and Callao scheduled for Tuesday (02 June) was suspended after union representatives reached an agreement with the Peruvian Government during negotiations involving the Ministry of Transport and Communications (Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones – MTC) and the Urban Transport Authority (Autoridad de Transporte Urbano para Lima y Callao – ATU).
• Under the agreement, the Executive Branch committed to issuing an emergency decree by Tuesday (02 June) establishing a temporary subsidy for regular urban passenger transport operators in Lima and Callao. The proposed mechanism includes compensation based on kilometers traveled, a key demand raised by transport companies seeking financial relief amid rising operating costs and economic pressures.
• The parties also agreed to continue discussions on a broader economic and financial rescue plan for the urban transport sector, including the evaluation of potential tax benefits and measures aimed at improving the financial sustainability of operators. The commitments were formalized through a signed agreement between government representatives and transport unions.
