The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a typhoon warning for Taiwan on Tuesday (11 November) as Typhoon Fung Wong continues to approach the island. The following are the details:
• The system was located approximately 370 km southwest of Eluanbi, moving north-northeast at 11 km/h, with a central pressure of 970 hPa, maximum sustained winds of 33 m/s, and gusts up to 43 m/s.
• The area affected by winds exceeding 15 m/s extends up to 250 km from the typhoon’s center, while stronger winds exceeding 25 m/s extend up to 60 km.
• The typhoon is forecast to move closer to Taiwan within the next 12 hours, positioning itself approximately 170 km west-southwest of Eluanbi later in the day.
• Warnings are active for Pingtung County and Kaohsiung City, as well as for vessels operating in the Bashi Channel, Pratas, and the surrounding waters of southeast Taiwan, the North Taiwan Strait, and the South Taiwan Strait.
• Torrential to extremely torrential rain is forecast for Yilan County (mountain areas) from late Monday night (10 November) through Tuesday night (11 November).
• Extremely heavy to torrential rain is expected across Taipei City (mountain areas), New Taipei City (mountain areas), Yilan County, Hualien County, and Taitung County (mountain areas) over the same period.
• Heavy to extremely heavy rain is anticipated in Keelung North Coast, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City (mountain areas), Pingtung County (mountain areas), Hengchun Peninsula, Taitung County, Lanyu and Ludao Islands.
• Heavy rainfall is also likely in Taipei City, Hsinchu County (mountain areas), Miaoli County (mountain areas), Taichung City (mountain areas), Nantou County (mountain areas), and Kaohsiung City (mountain areas).
• An orange strong wind advisory remains in effect from early Tuesday morning (11 November) through Wednesday night (12 November) for Taichung City, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, Penghu County, Kinmen County, and Lienchiang County, with winds reaching level 9 or gusts level 11.
• Additionally, yellow wind advisory remains in effect for Keelung City, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Chiayi County, Taitung County, Hualien County, and Yilan County with winds reaching level 6 or gusts level 8.
