As per reports, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in central Lima, Peru, on Tuesday (28 July) to protest the inauguration of President Keiko Fujimori.
• Protesters stated that they did not recognise Fujimori’s presidency and expressed concerns over human rights, accountability, and democratic governance.
• The demonstration began near the Palace of Justice, close to the Congress building where President Fujimori was sworn into office, before proceeding towards Plaza San Martín.
• Clashes between protesters and police were reported during the march. Participants included victims of previous protest-related violence, civil society organisations, human rights activists, and delegations from the regions of Arequipa and Puno.
• Former presidential candidate Roberto Sánchez and representatives of Amnesty International Peru also participated in the demonstration, while opposition lawmakers staged symbolic protests during the inauguration ceremony inside Congress.
