Red alert declared in Melipilla and Padre Hurtado due to fire on Saturday (21 December)

As per reports, the Chilean National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (SENAPRED), declared a red alert due to the proximity of the fire to populated areas on Saturday (21 December).

• The fires are active in the communes of Melipilla and Padre Hurtado, in the Metropolitan Region.
• Authorities stated that the fire has consumed nearly 200 hectares.
• Nine brigades and four Conaf technicians; eight Conaf aircraft, as well as a water truck and a skidder, are on site.
• Authorities’ messaging service was activated to alert the inhabitants of Parcelaciones Tierra Calma, Los Olivos, Los Corrales and Alto El Rosario, in the commune of Padre Hurtado.
