High wave alert issued for Rio de Janeiro Coast from Monday (11 May)

As per reports, the Marinha do Brasil issued a coastal high wave warning for the Rio de Janeiro coastline valid from 0600 hours local time (0900 hours UTC) on Monday (11 May) until 0900 hours local time (1200 hours UTC) on Wednesday (13 May).

• A cold front is forecast to affect the municipality of Rio de Janeiro from Monday (11 May), bringing rainfall, lower temperatures, cloudy conditions, and strong winds across several parts of the city and coastal areas.
• According to the Operations and Resilience Center of Rio de Janeiro, also known as COR Rio, the movement of the cold front combined with moisture coming from the Atlantic Ocean is expected to maintain cloudy weather conditions across Rio de Janeiro throughout Monday (11 May).
• Weather authorities forecast light to moderate rainfall at different times during Monday (11 May) across Rio de Janeiro municipality, including coastal and urban areas such as Copacabana, Barra da Tijuca, and the South Zone waterfront.
• Authorities also warned of occasional strong wind gusts during the passage of the cold front, which could affect outdoor movement, beachfront areas, and coastal transport conditions in Rio de Janeiro on Monday (11 May) and Tuesday (12 May).
• The Brazilian Navy stated that waves between two and three meters are expected to affect the Rio de Janeiro waterfront between Monday (11 May) morning and Wednesday (13 May) morning, particularly along exposed coastal stretches and beach areas.
• Temperatures across Rio de Janeiro are expected to gradually decline during Monday (11 May) and Tuesday (12 May) due to the continued influence of humid ocean winds associated with the cold front system.
• Weather conditions on Tuesday (12 May), are forecast to remain cloudy to partly cloudy across Rio de Janeiro municipality, with the possibility of light rainfall during early morning hours.
• A gradual improvement in weather conditions is forecast on Wednesday (13 May), with reduced cloud cover, no significant rainfall expected, and temperatures beginning to rise again across Rio de Janeiro.
• Another cold front is forecast to approach Rio de Janeiro municipality on Thursday (14 May), bringing increased cloud cover and renewed chances of light to moderate rainfall from the afternoon onward.
