As per reports, the National Weather Service (NWS) has warned of an elevated fire threat across Texas due to warm, dry, and breezy weather as of Sunday (09 March).
• The highest risk is expected to the west of the I-35 corridor, where critical fire conditions may develop. Friday (14 March) is of particular concern, as the strongest winds are forecast.
• Texas is currently experiencing widespread drought, with 53 percent of the states affected. Low relative humidity (below 10 percent in some areas), dry vegetation, and gusty winds increase the likelihood of grass fires each afternoon.
• The fire risk is highest during late spring and summer months, particularly from August to October, when temperatures peak, and drought conditions persist. Red Flag Warnings and Fire Weather Watches may be issued by the NWS in affected areas.
• Additionally, a storm system on Wednesday (12 March) may bring large hail and damaging winds east of I-35. If the system slows, severe weather may impact the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
