As per reports, an Air Quality Advisory has been issued between Thursday (03 July) and Friday (04 July), across much of Southeast Michigan, including the counties of Livingston, Washtenaw, Lenawee, Monroe, Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and St. Clair.
• The advisory has been declared by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) due to anticipated elevated levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the atmosphere.
• The primary contributors to the reduced air quality are lingering wildfire smoke across the Great Lakes region and increased atmospheric pollutants from widespread Independence Day (04 July) fireworks, both community-level and professional displays.
• These conditions are expected to be exacerbated by light wind patterns and stagnant weather, allowing pollutants to accumulate and remain concentrated across the region.
• As per the National Weather Service, the Air Quality Index (AQI) is forecast to reach the ‘Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups’ (Orange AQI) level, which may pose health concerns for vulnerable individuals, including persons with pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions, young children, and older adults.
