As per reports, the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru issued multiple weather advisories warning of significant daytime heat increases and severe nighttime temperature drops across parts of Peru from Tuesday (12 May) till Thursday (14 May).
• According to SENAMHI Zone six, daytime temperatures are expected to rise with moderate to strong intensity across several provinces of the Arequipa Region during the three-day period. The advisory applies particularly to mid-mountain and coastal valley areas, including the provinces of La Unión Province, Condesuyos Province, Castilla Province, Caylloma Province, Caravelí Province, Arequipa, Islay Province and Camaná Province.
• Meteorological authorities stated that limited cloud cover during midday periods may increase exposure to ultraviolet radiation during daytime hours. Afternoon wind gusts are also expected, with speeds potentially reaching approximately 35 kilometres per hour.
• Separately, SENAMHI issued an orange-level weather alert warning of severe nighttime temperature decreases across highland areas affecting 19 regions of Peru between Tuesday (12 May) and Thursday (14 May).
• The warning applies to areas within Áncash Region, Apurímac Region, Arequipa Region, Ayacucho Region, Cajamarca Region, Cusco Region, Huancavelica Region, Huánuco Region, Ica Region, Junín Region, La Libertad Region, Lambayeque Region, Lima Region, Moquegua Region, Pasco Region, Piura Region, Puno Region and Tacna Region.
• SENAMHI stated that the cold conditions may be accompanied by strong winds, limited cloud cover and dry seasonal atmospheric conditions typical of the Andean winter transition period.
