As per reports, Argentina’s Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) has issued a yellow alert for strong winds and snowfall across several regions of Santa Cruz Province on Tuesday (12 May).
• The SMN has forecast strong winds from the west and southwest with sustained speeds between 50 and 70 kilometres per hour.
• Wind gusts are expected to be more intense in localized areas, potentially reaching approximately 90 kilometres per hour during the peak of the alert.
• Significant snowfall is anticipated in the mountainous and plateau regions of the province, with accumulations expected to range between 15 and 30 centimetres.
• The combination of wind and snowfall may result in “whiteout” conditions (viento blanco) in exposed sectors of the Patagonian plateau.
• The affected areas include the regions of Deseado, Magallanes, Lago Buenos Aires, Rio Chico, Güer Aike, and Lago Argentino, as well as key road corridors including RN 3 and RN 40.
