The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued weather warnings for thunderstorm and lightning across Tamil Nadu until Wednesday (21 August).

• Monday (19 August): Yellow alert for thunderstorm and lightning is active across the state including Chennai.
• Tuesday (20 August): Orange alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorm and lightning has been issued in Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts. Additionally, yellow alert has been issued in all the remaining districts of the state.
• Wednesday (21 August): Yellow alert for thunderstorm and lightning is active across the state including Chennai.
