As per reports, on Thursday (19 June), multiple areas in Pune, including Hinjawadi, Sinhagad Road, Dhayari, and Kothrud, experienced waterlogging following the release of water from the Khadakwasla Dam amid ongoing heavy rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has maintained a red alert for heavy rainfall in Pune on Thursday (19 June).

The details are as follows:

• On Thursday (19 June), heavy rainfall caused waterlogging across several areas of Pune. Notable locations affected include the stretch near Sunbeam Infotech along the Infosys Phase 2 Circle Road toward Hinjawadi Phase 3, as well as the Handewadi-Sayyed Nagar railway crossing.
• Accumulation of rainwater was also reported in the Lohegaon Airport vicinity, with further waterlogging possible due to continued heavy rainfall.
• In Hinjawadi IT Park, commuters experienced disruptions, with multiple employees requesting work-from-home arrangements as roads became impassable. Additional waterlogging was observed on Sinhagad Road, Dhayari, and Kothrud.
• In response, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) activated round-the-clock flood control rooms at all 15 ward offices and its central headquarters. The civic body has also readied 71 shelter facilities citywide. Emergency deployment includes dewatering pumps, jetting machines, JCBs, rubber boats, and utility vehicles to manage waterlogging.
• Moreover, around 1300 hours on Thursday (19 June), following consistent rainfall in upstream catchment areas, the Maharashtra Water Resources Department commenced a controlled release of 2,000 cusecs of water from the Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River. This action triggered flood alerts across low-lying areas of Pune under PMC jurisdiction.
• The Control Officer at the Central Flood Control Room, Khadakwasla Irrigation Division, issued an advisory urging residents, particularly those living near riverbanks, to stay vigilant and avoid approaching the river. Citizens have been requested to relocate materials and livestock from the riverbed. Areas under specific alert include Sinhagad Road, Mhatre Bridge, Deccan, Shivane, and Erandwane, all of which are typically flood-prone during dam releases.
• Additionally, the PMC Additional Commissioner confirmed that all Municipal Assistant Commissioners have been instructed to notify residents and implement on-ground precautionary measures. Official alerts have been shared with the Pune District Collectorate-Disaster Management Room, Pune Police Commissionerate, Divisional Commissioner’s Office, PMC Disaster Management Cell, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), and the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) Control Room at Rasta Peth.
• As of Thursday (19 June), the water levels in major dams stand as follows: Khadakwasla- 64.75 percent, Varasgaon- 28.65 percent, Panshet- 20.28 percent, Temghar- 7.85 percent, Mulshi- 24.86 percent, Kasarsai- 55.85 percent, and Pavna- 35.34 percent.
