As per reports, security operations in the Mexican state of Sonora on Saturday (20 January) resulted in the fatalities of 12 criminals while seven others managed to escape.

Two officers from the Ministerial Criminal Investigation Agency sustained injuries.

• The confrontation occurred on a highway near Hermosillo on Saturday (20 January), initiated by an attack on investigative police officers by unknown individuals.
• Following the initial attack, armed civilians in multiple vehicles engaged in a high-speed chase, leading to a further exchange of gunfire in the area known as Siete Cerros.
