As per reports, a significant forest fire has affected more than 250 hectares of woodland near the village of Kozaki in Biłgoraj County, within the Lublin Province as of Wednesday (06 May).
• The fire began on Tuesday (05 May) afternoon and, although its spread has been temporarily halted, authorities have indicated that the situation remains serious and may deteriorate depending on changing weather conditions, particularly wind patterns.
• Over 340 firefighters and more than 80 fire crews are actively engaged in suppression efforts across difficult-to-access terrain.
• The operation is being reportedly supported by aerial resources, including S-70i Black Hawk helicopter units deployed by police and additional helicopters from State Forests, alongside Dromader firefighting aircraft equipped for water bombing.
• Authorities, have emphasized that even slight shifts in wind direction may complicate containment efforts in the coming hours.
• Aerial firefighting has been identified as critical due to limited ground accessibility, with helicopters using specialized tanks capable of carrying approximately 3,000 litres of water to support operations.
• The fire has reportedly impacted multiple counties, including Biłgoraj, Zamość, and Tomaszów, requiring coordinated multi-agency response.
• Despite the scale of the incident, officials have stated that there is currently no direct threat to local residents. H
