As per reports, the Zika virus continues to spread in Pune, with two additional cases reported on Monday (01 July). This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the city to six, both involving pregnant women residing in Erandwane.
Dr. Kalpana Baliwant, health officer for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), stated that among the 25 samples collected, 12 were from Erandwane, including seven from pregnant women, with two testing positive for Zika. An additional 13 samples were collected from Mundhwa, with no reports of pregnant women testing positive. Given the higher risk for pregnant women infected with Zika, health officials are conducting anomaly scans and enhancing surveillance in affected areas. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions against mosquito bites and monitor their health for Zika symptoms.
