As per reports, the updates for wildfires in Canada as of Saturday (16 August) are as follows:
• In Newfoundland and Labrador, a wildfire near Kingston has reportedly affected about 100 homes and is burning across roughly 98 square kilometres along the northwest shore of Conception Bay.
• An evacuation alert that covered around 20,000 residents in Paradise, Conception Bay South, Galway, and Southlands (St. John’s), along with a previously declared state of emergency, has now ended.
• In New Brunswick, a wildfire north of Miramichi led to an evacuation readiness alert for residents of Lavillette, and the community remains under close monitoring due to possible shifts in fire behaviour.
• In Nova Scotia, a wildfire near Long Lake in Annapolis County has grown to eight square kilometres, prompting officials to warn that ongoing hot and dry weather could cause further expansion. A state of emergency has been declared in Annapolis County, and firefighting efforts have been affected after a Department of Natural Resources helicopter crashed into a lake; while the pilot survived, the aircraft is no longer operational.
