The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued several weather warnings as heavy rainfall along with strong winds with speed reaching 30-40, gusting to 50kmph likely to prevail on Wednesday (31 July). Red alert for extremely heavy rainfall and strong surface winds in Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Idukki districts. Orange alert is active in Ernakulam, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta while yellow alert is active in Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha.

Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a high wave alert for Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kannur, Kollam, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur on Wednesday (31 July).

• In view of the ongoing heavy rainfall, holiday for educational institutions has been declared for Wednesday (31 July) in 12 districts, including: Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kannur, Kasaragod, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, and Wayanad.
• The MG University, Kottayam, and the Kerala University, Thiruvananthapuram, have postponed all the exams that were scheduled for Wednesday (31 July). Further, all the PSC exams scheduled till Friday (02 August) have also been postponed.
• In response to the Churalmala disaster in Wayanad, the state government has declared official mourning on Tuesday (30 July) and Wednesday (31 July). The national flag will be flown at half-mast statewide, and all government public ceremonies and celebrations will be postponed. • Tourism centers in Idukki, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, and Thrissur were closed, and quarry and mining activities have been banned until further notice.
• Due to heavy rains, the water levels in Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and Irrigation Department dams in the state are rising. KSEB dams, as of Tuesday (30 July) hold 59 percent water, Irrigation Department dams 60 percent, and Idukki Dam 55 percent with a level of 2360.56 feet. A 24-hour monitoring system is in place for all dams to ensure prompt action when required.
• Red alerts are issued for Moozhiyar, Mattupetti, Kallarkutty, Tannayar, Lower Periyar, and Peringalkuth dams, an orange alert for Banasura Sagar, and a blue alert for Kuttyadi. Three shutters of Banasura Sagar Dam have been opened due to continued heavy rain in its catchment area. The water levels in Kundala, Mattupetti, Ponmudi, Kallarkutty, and Lower Periyar dams in Idukki district are also near their storage capacities. • Indian National Congress (INC) leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have canceled their planned visit to Wayanad on Wednesday (31 July) due to incessant rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
• On Tuesday (30 July), a high-level meeting led by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was held to coordinate rescue operations in the landslide-hit areas of Wayanad and discuss further actions. The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of rescue operations, coordination with central government agencies, deployment of disaster response forces, health and safety measures, and relief camp facilities. At the meeting, it was reported that 34 bodies had been identified, 18 handed over to families, and 16 recovered from the Chaliyar River at Pothukal village.
• Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that his state is providing full support for rescue and relief operations in Wayanad. He has dispatched two senior IAS officers to coordinate with Kerala authorities and has sent National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams from Bengaluru, as well as the Madras Engineer Group (MEG) of the Army, to assist with the efforts. An officer from MEG, along with two Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and 70 personnel, have already departed for Wayanad with 15 vehicles carrying supplies. Additionally, two more officers, four JCOs, and 100 army personnel are preparing to depart with 40 vehicles. Heavy engineering equipment and rescue dog teams are being airlifted, and disaster relief teams from the Indian Coast Guard have been dispatched to provide aid.
