As per reports, explosions were reported in the Lebanese capital of Beirut on Friday (28 September) as Israel Defence Forces (IDF) stated that it struck Hezbollah’s headquarters with the intention to kill the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah. Further strikes on southern Beirut, targeting alleged stores of weapons were also reported. The IDF also stated that the air strikes are likely to continue.
The strikes destroyed buildings in a densely populated area, killing at least six people and wounding dozens of others, according to Lebanon’s health ministry. According to the US defense secretary, Israel didn’t notify the US about the strikes until the attack was underway.
• The IDF that fighter jets attacked and killed Muhammad Ali Ismail, the commander of Hezbollah’s rocket unit in southern Lebanon, and his deputy, Hussein Ahmed Ismail. The army also stted that additional Hezbollah operatives and commanders were killed in the attack.
• Additionally, rocket sirens were heard in Rosh Pina and communities in Israel’s northern Galilee region, during the early morning hours of Saturday (28 September).
• US Navy warships shot down a barrage of Houthi missiles and drones in the Red Sea on Friday (27 September).
