As per reports, the following are the updates for the Israel – Hamas war as of Wednesday (16 October):
• According to the warning issued by the United Nations Human Rights Office on Monday (14 October), Israel is effectively sealing off North Gaza and may be carrying out the large-scale forced transfer of the civilian population. It has ordered all civilians north of Gaza City to leave and has blocked all food from entering northern Gaza since the beginning of the month.
• As of the overnight hours on Tuesday (15 October), Israeli strikes across Gaza killed at least 40 Palestinians, according to emergency and civil defense officials in the enclave.
• An advance team of US military personnel and some components of the advanced air defense system that the US is providing to Israel arrived in the country on Monday (14 October). Additional troops and components will be arriving in Israel in the coming days.
• As of Tuesday (15 October), the US President Joe Biden’s administration has demanded the Israeli government to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza within the next 30 days or risk violating US laws governing foreign military assistance.
• A funeral for Abbas Nilforoushan, a senior commander in the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was held on Tuesday (15 October) in Tehran, Iran. Abbas Nilforoushan was killed alongside Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli attack on Beirut in September.
