As per reports, on Saturday (30 December) Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated their intentions to extend military operations to dismantle Hamas infrastructure in the Khan Younis area of southern Gaza.
Multiple locations were targeted by the Israeli military in Khan Younis and Rafah in southern Gaza, with airstrikes and missiles striking housing units and infrastructure, reportedly resulting in high numbers of fatalities in areas where Palestinians have relocated.
• The United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that at least 100,000 internally displaced people had arrived in Rafah, last week the most southerly city in Gaza.
• The IDF stated two Hamas military compounds were dismantled in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, with troops locating numerous weapons, explosive devices, guns, military equipment, and communication devices in the compounds.
• For the second time this month, President Joe Biden has utilized executive authority to authorize an urgent weapons sale to Israel, circumventing the need for approval from the Congress. The approved emergency arms deal amounts to $147.5 million.
• Hezbollah announced that it had carried out three attacks on Israeli forces. The attacks come after Israel carried out an aerial aggression from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Latakia, targeting several points south of the city of Aleppo on Saturday (30 December).
• Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu allegedly barred Mossad chief and Shin Bet head from participating in a recent meeting with the Israeli Defense Minister and the IDF Chief of Staff to discuss military operations, raising questions regarding potential security implications. The Prime Minister’s Office denied the reports.
• The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) declared their intention to facilitate humanitarian movement through an alternative route west of Khan Younis, running along the coastal road. This alternative passage grants access to central Gaza, encompassing areas such as Deir Al-Balah. Additionally, the IDF communicated a four-hour suspension of military activities in the Rafah camp in the southern region, allowing for the uninterrupted resupply of humanitarian aid.
