Update on the Island Creek Fire as of Friday (05 September)

As per reports, the Island Creek Fire in Idaho is burning at an estimated 14474 acres, with containment levels at only 5 per cent as of Friday (05 September).

The fire was ignited by lightning on 31 July and has been spreading ever since. The spreading of the fire has considerably slowed down in the past days.

• The fire is located in remote, forested terrain within the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, northeast of Elk City.
• Crews face difficult access and rugged conditions, with hot, dry weather and wind complicating suppression efforts.
• The 268-strong personnel have made considerable progress on protecting structures in the Selway River Corridor between O’Hara Bridge and the Fenn Ranger Station.
