As per reports, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) will visit Solingen on Monday (26 August) at 0930 hours local time, three days after the fatal knife attack.
• The Chancellor’ plans include a visit to the memorial to the victims at the scene of the attack and talks with Mayor Tim Kurzbach (SPD) and emergency services. Federal Chancellor Scholz will be accompanied by North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU).
• After Solingen, Federal Chancellor Scholz will also visit three more cities in the Ruhr region. The visits to the chemical park in Marl, the technology center at the former Opel site in Bochum and Castrop-Rauxel, where the Chancellor will visit an allotment garden, among other things.
• Through Sunday (25 August), after the attack in Solingen, various groups demonstrated in the city center. Reports indicate that there was a total of three different gatherings led by ‘Wuppertal stands across’ group (Wuppertal stellt sich quer), Young Alternative for Germany and vigils were held in memory of the victims around the city center and the crime scene.
