Update on road disruptions due to floods and landslides across Nepal – Wednesday (05 August)

As per reports, the following are the latest updates regarding road disruptions caused by floods and landslides across Nepal as of Wednesday (05 August):

• The Department of Roads has stated that 24 previously disrupted road sections have reopened following repair works. However, three road sections remain completely blocked, while six others continue to experience partial disruptions due to flood and landslide impacts.
• Vehicular movement on the Dhulikhel–Sindhuli section of the BP Highway remains restricted between 1800 and 0400 hours (local time) due to the risk of flooding. Similarly, traffic on the Kanti Highway remains restricted between 1700 and 0500 hours (local time) owing to continued rainfall and associated hazards.
• The Mechi Highway remains blocked at Raj Duwali in Ilam Municipality-9 due to extensive mud accumulation. Meanwhile, the Araniko Highway remains blocked at Jeerokilo, Kodari and Liping because of landslides, mud and road subsidence.
• Additionally, the Lamo Sanghu–Ramechhap Road remains closed at Kirnetar in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5 due to road erosion caused by the Tamakoshi River, although an alternative route has been made operational.
• Authorities have advised motorists to monitor road conditions before travelling, as continued rainfall may result in further changes to highway accessibility and traffic restrictions across affected areas.
