As per reports, the following are the latest updates on the Maratha reservation agitation as of Tuesday (12 March):
• The state government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and initiated an inquiry into the violent protests across the state demanding Maratha reservation. The committee has been directed to submit its report within three months.
• Sandeep Karnik (Bhapose), Commissioner of Police, Nashik City, will lead the special investigation team appointed by the state government.
• Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed stringent measures against individuals intentionally inciting violence during the Maratha reservation protests across the state.
• Challenging the state government, Maratha Sakal Kranti Morcha and Sakal Samaj activists of Pune District convened a public meeting at Bhoir Gymnasium, Chinchwad, where they resolved to field thousands of Maratha candidates in the Lok Sabha elections against the ruling party. The resolution, unanimously approved at the meeting, includes plans to field candidates in the Maval, Shirur, Baramati, and Pune Lok Sabha constituencies.
