As per reports, the latest situational updates pertaining to the unrest in Manipur, as of Wednesday (25 December), are as follows;
• The Manipur government has announced that the Centre has re-imposed the Protected Area Regime (PAR), or Protected Area Permit, in Manipur.
• The statement by the BJP’s Biren Singh-led government in Manipur stated that the move, bringing back the restrictions after 13 years, was necessitated in the light of security concerns over influx from neighbouring countries, especially from Myanmar.
• The Union ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday (24 December) also informed the Manipur government about a new scheme to allow Myanmar residents who live within 10km of the border into Manipur, but after getting a ‘border pass’ from the Assam Rifles, adding that the facility will also be applicable for Manipur’s border residents who wish to visit Myanmar border villages.
• Acting on a tip-off, security forces conducted a search operation in Teijang village in Churachandpur district, and seized three country-made rockets, a .303 rifle with magazine, four pistols with magazines, six country-made bombs and 45 sticks of low-grade explosives, and other cartridges.
