As per reports, the latest situational updates in Manipur as of Monday (26 August) are as follows:

• Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Saturday (24 August) stated that the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement was signed with some Kuki rebel groups to maintain peace in Manipur and improve law and order, however, some militant groups have violated the ground rules. He said that the state is approaching the Central government to withdraw the SoO from these groups.
• On Saturday (24 August), a gunfight was reported between two armed groups in Imphal West. This led to three deaths and all casualties were of militants. The incident occurred near Koutruk Primary School and Community Hall in Lamsang police station area around 1400 hours. Police are investigating the incident and have registered a case in connection with the gunfight.
• On Friday (23 August), a cadre of an insurgent outfit was arrested for his involvement in extortion activities and this led to the recovery of arms, ammunition, and explosives in southern Kakching, Manipur. Further, a joint team of the centre and state forces conducted operations at Wangjing Khunou foothills of the same district. The combined team recovered one INSAS Rifle with a magazine loaded with 11 rounds, one 9mm pistol with an empty magazine, five hand grenades, 10 live rounds of INSAS Rifle, two live rounds of 9mm, one helmet, one detonator, and one bulletproof vest. The recovered items have been handed over to Wangoo police station.
• On Saturday (24 August), security forces in Manipur’s Tengnoupal District seized 1005 kg of areca nuts valued at INR 8.7 lakhs. The contraband items were being transported in two vehicles without valid documents. Authorities suspect that the nuts may have been smuggled into India from Myanmar.
