According to reports, tropical Storm Beryl is in forecast to strengthen as it tracks toward the Texas-Mexico border this weekend, bringing a risk of damaging winds, life-threatening storm surge and dangerous flooding to Texas beginning late Sunday (07 July).
• Beryl, currently a tropical storm, has entered the Gulf of Mexico and was about 615 miles from Corpus Christi, Texas, as of Friday (05 July) night. It is expected to strengthen again ahead of its final landfall in South Texas as a hurricane in late hours of Sunday (07 July).
• The Texas coast is under hurricane watch from the mouth of the Rio Grande north to San Luis Pass. A storm surge watch is also in effect for the Texas coast from the Rio Grande north to High Island. A hurricane watch is in effect for the northeastern coast of Mexico, from Barra el Mezquital to the mouth of the Rio Grande.
• The National Hurricane Center has stated that Beryl is in forecast to make landfall over South Padre Island, Texas, close to the Texas-Mexico border, as a Category 1 hurricane late Sunday (07 July) night.
• Tropical storm conditions is in forecast for the western Gulf Coast on Sunday (07 July), with hurricane conditions expected later in the day. Storm surge up to five feet is in forecast for southern parts of the Texas Coast. Heavy rainfall of up to 10 inches, with localized amounts of 15 inches, is in forecast across areas of Texas late Sunday (07 July) through the middle of next week.
