As per reports, the state of São Paulo is approaching 300,000 confirmed cases of dengue fever as of Friday (21 March). Further cases are expected to be reported on Saturday (22 March).
• According to the Center for Strategic Health Information, as of Friday (21 March), the state has recorded 296,143 confirmed cases. Among those infected, 273 individuals have died, while 545 cases have developed into severe dengue fever. Additionally, 465 deaths are currently under investigation.
• Over the past week, from 16 March onwards, dengue transmission has shown a significant decrease in São Paulo, with 3,224 confirmed cases—the lowest weekly figure recorded this year— and no reported fatalities. In contrast, the previous week, from 09-15 saw 18,586 confirmed cases and two deaths.
• The region of São Paulo most affected by fatalities is São José do Rio Preto, which has recorded 86 deaths. Ribeirão Preto and Campinas follow, with 34 deaths each. In terms of infection incidence per 100,000 inhabitants, São José do Rio Preto has the highest rate at 4.4 thousand, followed by Araçatuba with 3.2 thousand and Araraquara with 2.3 thousand.
• In response to the outbreak, the government of São Paulo has launched an awareness campaign to combat misinformation and educate the public. From Saturday (22 March) until 31 March, an interactive booth will be set up in five communities in São Paulo’s capital: Heliópolis, São João, Cantinho do Céu, Paraisópolis, and Jardim Planalto.
