As per reports, the Syndicat des professeures et professeurs enseignants de l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) has announced that approximately 2,100 lecturers will go on an indefinite strike starting on Monday (03 February) unless a settlement is reached during negotiations scheduled over the weekend.

• The union is advocating for additional compensation for the increased workload associated with online teaching and addressing concerns over the size of online course groups.
• UQAM management has expressed a willingness to negotiate but disputes the extent of online teaching at the institution.
