As per reports, health authorities confirmed two locally acquired cases of West Nile virus in the Lazio region of Italy on Thursday (17 July). The Spallanzani Institute in Rome identified the infections as the first native cases in the region.
• The two infected individuals were located in Cisterna and Priverno, municipalities in the province of Latina.
• Both patients are receiving treatment at Santa Maria Goretti Hospital; their condition is improving and not considered critical.
• In response, the Lazio Region has intensified its mosquito-borne virus surveillance and control measures under the Regional Plan.
