As per notifications issued by the Central Weather Administration (CWA), a magnitude 4.8 earthquake was recorded off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 0927 hours on Sunday (02 June), followed by another quake measuring 4.4 in magnitude one minute later at 0928 hours.
The epicentres of both earthquakes were located at sea, 21.2 kilometres south of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 5.4 kilometres and 6.1 kilometres respectively. The intensity of both earthquakes was highest in Hualien County, where it measured 4 on Taiwan’s 7-tier intensity scale.
