As per reports, severe traffic congestion has been reported on the Via Rápida (VR1) highway in Madeira on Wednesday (31 December), affecting motorists traveling to Funchal for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

• The traffic disruption was reported at approximately 1956 hours local time (1956 hours UTC) in the Neves area, specifically before the descent to Canto do Muro, in the Machico to Funchal direction.
• Reports indicate extensive vehicle queues in a stop-and-go pattern extending from the Neves area to the Pinheiro Grande junction in the Cancela area, with traffic moving at significantly reduced speeds or coming to a complete standstill.
