As per reports, a total of three districts in South Sumatra Province have been designated as emergency alert areas for forest and land fires (Karhutla) because of the dry season.

• These three areas include Banyuasin, Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) and Musi Banyuasin (Muba) Regencies. This determination will last till 30 November 2024.
• There are 12 areas that are prone to forest and land fires. However, only three have been designated as emergency alert because they are considered flammable areas.
• Nine other regencies are still in process and are likely to be upgraded to forest and land fires emergency alert status. These areas are Ogan Ilir, Muara Enim, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI), Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU), East OKU and South OKU. Next, Musi Rawas (Mura), North Musi Rawas (Muratara) and Lahat.
