As per reports, on Saturday (12 September), the opening ceremony of the 2026 South American Games is expected to take place at the National Flag Monument from 1800 hours local time (2100 hours UTC), prompting an extensive security and traffic-control operation.
• Approximately 21 traffic cuts are expected around the Monument and Bandera National Park, with the strictest restrictions beginning at 1200 hours local time (1500 hours UTC) and potentially remaining in place until approximately 2330 hours local time (0230 hours UTC on the following day) or midnight.
• Major arteries leading towards the river, including Córdoba and Santa Fe streets, is expected to be closed at Laprida, preventing access to the riverfront corridor used by Olympic Village buses transporting athletes.
• The Games are expected to run until 26 September across Rosario, Santa Fe and Rafaela, with more than 4,000 athletes from 15 countries participating in 43 sports and 60 disciplines.
• Pedestrian restrictions are also expected to be implemented around the event area, while a large stage, screens, mapping and special lighting installations are being assembled for the ceremony.
