As per reports, a landslide occurred on Saturday (02 May), at an overpass construction site in Zone four of Villa Nueva, resulting in road closures at a major intersection.
• Local authorities clarified that the incident was caused by a landslide rather than a sinkhole and was linked to construction activity.
• Specifically, the construction company had cut into the slope but did not reinforce the ground in a timely manner, leading to soil displacement and instability.
• The affected section is located between 16th Avenue in Zone four and zero Street in Zone five, an area that typically handles approximately 42,000 vehicles daily and serves as a key transit point connecting routes toward San Miguel Petapa, Zone one of Villa Nueva, Calle Real, and other major corridors.
• The closure was implemented earlier than planned due to the incident, although authorities indicated that traffic restrictions would have been required later for reinforcement works.
• Stabilization efforts are expected to continue throughout the week, potentially including structural reinforcement such as foundation works and concrete application.
• The Municipal Traffic Police is managing traffic diversions through alternative routes, including Guillén Street and the Covitigss Colony area.
