As per reports, as of 1400 hours local time (2000 hours UTC) on Sunday (07 June), Guatemala is experiencing a widespread power outage affecting Guatemala City and several municipalities and departments across the country.
• According to the Empresa Eléctrica de Guatemala S.A. (EEGSA), the outages were caused by a frequency variation within the national electrical system. While electricity service was restored in some areas, several locations continue to experience power outages and recurring blackouts as of 1400 hours local time (2000 hours UTC).
• Reports indicate the affected areas include Guatemala City, Mixco, Villa Nueva, San Miguel Petapa, Fraijanes, Santa Catarina Pinula, Villa Canales, Amatitlán, and Escuintla.
• Additionally, the incident has also impacted departments such as Zacapa and Sacatepéquez, with local electricity providers reporting outages across multiple municipalities. Authorities stated that monitoring and restoration efforts remain ongoing.
