Protest scheduled in Guatemala City on Wednesday (22 April)

As per reports, anti-corruption protest is scheduled in Guatemala City on Wednesday (22 April).

• Anti-corruption protestors are scheduled to meet in El Trébol at 0700 hours local time (1300 hours UTC) on Wednesday (22 April) and are expected to march to the central park in Zone 01 of Guatemala City.
• The protest is organised to demand the re-election of Walter Mazariegos as rector of the University of San Carlos (USAC) and to establish a transparent process in the appointment of the next attorney general and head of the Public Ministry.
• The protest is organised by the Committee for Peasant Development, Highland Peasant Committee, the National Struggle Front and the University of San Carlos of Guatemala.
• The possible roads affected during the protest period are El Trébol, the Periférico Ring Road, the Obelisk area and Martí Street.
• Amílcar Montejo, traffic spokesperson, reported that traffic is expected to be complicated between the Atlantic Highway and Martí Street; between the Inter-American Highway and Roosevelt Avenue; and from the Pacific Highway towards Aguilar Batres Avenue, as well as from the CA-1 East Highway towards zones 10 and 15.
