As per reports, the fire that broke out on Thursday (15 May) in a ship with scrap material in the Amsterdam’s Vlothaven, continues to burn as of Friday (16 May).

• The fire department is working on an alternative extinguishing plan and suspects that the extinguishing will take a long time.
• The vessel, which comprises five separate cargo holds, initially caught fire in hold no. 4, with the blaze subsequently spreading to hold no. 3.
• Efforts to extinguish the fire have been hampered by high temperatures that have destabilized the hatches of hold no. 3, rendering the burning scrap metal inside inaccessible and allowing the fire to persist.
• The fire has generated substantial smoke, prompting authorities to issue multiple NL-Alert warnings to residents in the vicinity. Four NL-Alerts have already been sent because the smoke spread, as of Friday (16 May) morning.
