As per reports, a shooting incident took place at a Holiday Inn Express in the area of Southeast 17th Street and Southeast 15th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale around 0730 hours (local time) on Thursday (21 March).
• According to initial reports, the police exchanged gunfire with the suspect as they attempted to enter a hotel room in response to a 911 (emergency) call. The shooter, who had barricaded himself, was later found dead inside the room by the SWAT team.
• The injured officer was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, while another officer suffered minor injuries not related to gunshots.
• A large police presence including armored trucks was reported in the area, while several roads near the hotel were shut.
