As per reports, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha has ordered the National Police Chief and provincial governors to tighten security in the wake of extremist groups attempting to convince people to hold protests over the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA).
• Sokha confirmed that he had received information about opposition groups inciting people in the provincial capitals to enter Phnom Penh on Sunday (18 August) to join the demonstration against the CLV-DTA.
• Until 31 August, group travel to Phnom Penh and surrounding provinces is restricted.
• Any requests to demonstrate in private places or other locations is not allowed.
• The National Police reportedly has evidence that groups planning to participate in the demonstration have weapons, such as Molotov cocktails and rubber sticks.
• Individuals involved in a plot would be charged with conspiracy offences.
