As per reports, the Toyo Construction has been awarded the civil engineering contract for the expansion of the New Container Terminal (NCT2) at Sihanoukville port in Cambodia.
• The order, covering Package 1 (Civil Engineering Works), was placed by the Port Authority of Sihanoukville (PAS). The contract is worth around 26.2 billion Yen and the works are scheduled to take place across 36 months. Toyo Construction stated that it is the company’s largest project to date in Cambodia.
• The project will be financed through a yen loan from the Japanese government, provided via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
• Cargo volumes at the port have risen significantly in recent years in line with Cambodia’s economic growth. The existing terminal is nearing its capacity limit, making an increase in cargo-handling capacity an urgent priority.
• Three new container terminal expansion projects are now under way at the port with support from the Japanese government and JICA. The contract awarded to Toyo Construction covers the construction of the second terminal.
