The Meteorological Service of New Zealand (MetService) has issued road snowfall warnings for Lewis Pass (SH7), Arthur’s Pass (SH73) and Porters Pass (SH73) on Thursday (17 September).
• At Lewis Pass (SH7), rainfall could turn to snowfall above 800 metres from 0900 to 1400 hours (local time), with around one centimetre of snow potentially accumulating on the road near the summit.
• At Arthur’s Pass (SH73), snowfall is expected to develop above 800 metres from 0400 to 1000 hours (local time), with one centimetre or less potentially accumulating around the summit.
• At Porters Pass (SH73), snowfall is expected to lower to 500 metres overnight, with the warning valid from 0100 to 1100 hours (local time) on Thursday (17 September). Around two to five centimetres of snow may accumulate near the summit, with lesser amounts possible down to 500 metres.
