The Meteorological Service of New Zealand (MetService) issued road snowfall warnings at 1027 hours (local time) on Wednesday (09 September) for Arthur’s Pass, Lindis Pass and Porters Pass, with snowfall expected during Thursday (10 September).
• Arthur’s Pass (State Highway 73): Brief snowfall is expected between 0500 and 0800 hours (local time), with around one centimetre potentially accumulating above 800 metres.
• Lindis Pass (State Highway 8): Brief snow showers are expected between 0000 and 0300 hours (local time), with around one centimetre potentially accumulating above 900 metres.
• Porters Pass (State Highway 73): A period of snowfall is expected between 0500 and 1200 hours (local time). Around three to five centimetres may accumulate above 800 metres, with lesser amounts down to 600 metres.
