As per reports from MetService New Zealand, Road Snowfall Warnings have been issued for several South Island alpine routes, effective during the early hours of Sunday (19 October). The warnings outline the following conditions:
• Crown Range Road: Snow likely between 0400–0900 hours (local time), with up to 1 cm accumulation expected above 600 metres.
• Lindis Pass (SH8): Snow likely between 0500–0800 hours (local time), with up to 1 cm accumulation above 600 metres.
• Milford Road (SH94): Snow expected between 0300–1000 hours (local time), with 5–10 cm accumulation about the highest sections and lighter accumulation down to 600 metres.
• The snowfall is linked to a passing cold front across the lower South Island, bringing sub-zero conditions to elevated terrain and potential hazards for early-morning motorists.
