MetService has issued road snowfall warnings for several alpine highway routes across the North and South Islands in New Zealand on Friday (08 August) and Saturday (09 August).
• Arthur’s Pass (SH73): Snowfall is expected between 1700 hours and 2100 hours (local time) on Friday (08 August), with accumulations of up to one centimetre (cm) above 800 metres.
• Crown Range Road: Snowfall is forecast between 0700 hours and 1100 hours (local time) on Friday (08 August), with accumulations of one to two cm above 700 metres; lesser amounts may fall at lower elevations.
• Lindis Pass (SH8): Snowfall is anticipated between 0800 hours and 1200 hours (local time) on Friday (08 August), with one to two cm expected above 800 metres.
• Milford Road (SH94): A snowfall window has been issued from 0600 hours to 1000 hours (local time) on Friday (08 August), with expected accumulations of one to two cm above 700 metres.
• Porters Pass (SH73): Snowfall is forecast between 1700 hours and 2100 hours (local time) on Friday (08 August), with one to two cm likely above 800 metres.
• Lewis Pass (SH7): Snow is forecast between 1600 hours and 2100 hours (local time) on Friday (08 August), with one to two cm accumulation expected above 700 metres.
• Desert Road (SH1): Snow showers are expected between 0200 hours and 1000 hours (local time) on Saturday (09 August), with one to three cm accumulation likely above 800 metres, and lesser amounts down to 600 metres.
