The New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi has reported that State Highway 53 (SH53) is closed at Waihenga Bridge between Featherston and Martinborough due to rising water levels at 2248 hours (local time) on Monday (20 April).

• The closure affects both directions of travel at Waihenga Bridge due to flooding conditions.
• A detour route has been implemented for traffic travelling towards Martinborough via Kahutara Road, Lake Ferry Road, and Jellicoe Street.
• Northbound traffic is advised to follow the reverse of the designated detour route. Additional travel time of approximately 30 to 40 minutes is expected when using the diversion.
