As per reports, unconfirmed supporters the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) from Palmar de Bravo, Puebla, blocked the Puebla-Orizaba highway with burning tires for five hours on Saturday (15 June). They were protesting the results of the 02 June election, where the Electoral Institute of the State (IEE) declared independent candidate Juan Carlos Varillas the winner. The electoral body reported Varillas received 5,284 votes, while PVEM candidate Adán Silva Valeriano garnered 5,261 votes. Protesters alleged electoral fraud.

As a result of the protests, vehicles were redirected to Acatzingo, and the Federal Roads and Bridges Authority (CAPUFE) advised citizens to consider alternative routes. The road was reopened to traffic around 1500 hours local time on Saturday (15 June), after demonstrators held discussions with the Ministry of the Interior of the state of Puebla.
