As per reports, the Public Sector Associations Gathering in Lebanon, representing civilian public employees, military personnel and retirees, has called for a mass sit-in outside the Lebanese Parliament near the Beirut Municipality building in central Beirut from 0900 hours local time (0600 hours UTC) on Tuesday (11 August).
• The gathering follows the group’s rejection of the government’s decision to pay the retroactive effect of salary and pension adjustments in instalments through the end of August 2027 rather than in full
• The group has called on all public sector employees, retired military personnel and civilian retirees to participate in what it described as a comprehensive and escalating mobilisation, with additional steps scheduled to be announced depending on the outcome of the protest.
• The group also called on the government to approve decrees and legislation restoring the value of public sector salaries and pensions to their 2019 equivalent in USD terms.
