As per reports, following the leaked phone call between Thailand’s Prime Minister (PM) Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Cambodia’s President Hun Sen, there are demands for the resignation of the Thai PM. The PM appeared to criticise Thai army’s role in the border dispute between the two countries.
• The PM is facing calls to resign post the 15 June call leak.
• Bhumjaithai, second largest party in the coalition, formally exited the coalition on Wednesday (18 June), and its members submitted resignation papers, effective from Thursday (19 June).
• The United Thai Nation (UTN), Chart Thai and Democrat Parties all announced separate meetings on Thursday to determine the next step.
• Currently, the Student-People Network for Thai Reform is gathered at the Chomaimaruched Bridge to call for the Prime Minister’s resignation, and officers have positioned shields there.
• Protests are likely to take place outside the Government House in Bangkok and multiple protests are expected to take place throughout the day.
• As a precaution, the police in Dusit district of Bangkok, ordered road closures around the Government House from 0800 hours on Thursday (19 June). The closures will affect access roads and nearby intersections as authorities expect a large gathering.
