As per reports, protests by law students were reported on Sunday (01 September) against the judicial reform of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who intends to establish elections for all judges and the Supreme Court starting in 2025.

The protests led by students from the Faculty of Law of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), marched from the Angel of Independence to the Senate before López Obrador delivered his last official Government Report and before the new Congress took office on Sunday (01 September).

• The demonstration was joined by students from other public institutions, such as the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE), and private institutions, such as the Escuela Libre de Derecho (ELD), the Universidad Iberoamericana and the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
• The students stated that the reform, which López Obrador intends to enact before leaving office on 01 October, would affect the judicial career and allow the interference of foreign interests in justice.
• The demonstration was joined by judges and employees of the judiciary, who have been on a national strike against the reform since 21 August.
