As per reports, a protest organized by the Jana Aragala Viyaparaya (People’s Struggle Movement) took place from near the Fort Railway Station towards the Pettah area of Colombo on Wednesday (20 March). The protest was against several issues including a rise in cost of living and foreign agreements, amongst others.

The demonstrators attempted to head towards Pettah but witnessed the intervention of the riot police who fired tear gas shells and water cannons to disperse the crowd. Traffic on Olcot Mawatha was also disrupted.
